I'm proud to say that I've created a really great side table.

The key point is that by carving the top and limiting its use, the product has a sense of simplicity.

The center top and the four legs surrounding it are joined together with half joints, making the table very strong despite having only a small number of parts.

Tables with carved tops like this are not at all uncommon in general.
Around 2016, KOMA also released a product with a carved tabletop called the "ensou table" in its product lineup.
In addition to this, I have designed many carved tabletops, including custom orders, such as ones with removable tabletops that can be used as trays.

However, I particularly like this table, with its organic, hand-carved tabletop and straight, slim, simple frame.

At KOMA, all opinions and requests from customers are carefully stored, and in many cases, products are created by reflecting these opinions.
This time, Matsuyama (nicknamed Eve), the Aoyama branch manager, once again brought up the keyword "recessed tabletop," a request he had received in conversations with many customers in the past.

While responding to this request, we aimed to create a design that would surpass the recessed tops we had created in the past.
We decided to leave the production to Hisada (nicknamed Hakase), who is currently the most promising of our young craftsmen.

It was the first time that Hakase had worked as my assistant, and it was by no means an easy job, requiring both skill and sensitivity to process fine angles and carve out parts, but he did a faithful job, typical of him.

This side table was born in this way and turned out to be even better than I had imagined.

I am also happy to see that young talent is definitely growing.
