The surfboard chair was created as a way to display my beloved surfboard.

My oldest passion is motorcycles. Since my teenage years, I’ve been drawn to the distinctive sound and ride of vintage bikes from the 1970s and ’80s—their raw, unfinished character that feels almost alive, something modern industrial products seem to have lost.

Snowboarding in the backcountry is another pursuit. There’s always a quiet sense of danger—thinking “maybe this time…”—yet I’m irresistibly drawn back to the mountains by the silence of untouched snow and the allure of powder.

I have a few passions like this that I’ve pursued seriously over the years. But if I had to choose just one, I wouldn't hesitate to say surfing.

Paddling out into the ocean at dawn, surrounded by mist blending into the whitening sky, I sometimes feel as though I’ve slipped into another world—an overwhelming, almost unsettling beauty.

The glassy surface of the sea stretches endlessly, becoming something beyond water itself. Then, far on the horizon, a subtle shift in color and distortion signals a swell approaching. No matter how many times I’ve experienced it, that moment always brings a fresh surge of anticipation.

And when riding the energy of a wave—
there are simply no words.

So much in this world cannot be expressed, and surfing is one of those things that resists explanation at every turn.

These moments, once or twice a week, have become an irreplaceable part of my life. Yet they never fade into something ordinary.

Each time I come out of the water, my mind emptied, I’m reminded that everything in my everyday life—work, friends, family—is equally special. And that realization brings a quiet sense of joy.

Last year, a surfboard my wife gave me for my birthday added a new dimension to my appreciation of surfing—the beauty of the board itself.

Perhaps because I spend my days shaping wood by hand, I see hand-shaped surfboards not merely as tools, but as works imbued with the craft and intention of their maker.
I found myself wanting to create something to display such a treasured piece—
and that desire became the surfboard chair.
