I've been thinking for the past six months about making storage furniture that would go with the cocoda chair.

As I was imagining scenes of sitting in a chair reading a book or drinking, I was sketching out storage furniture to store my favorite items, and this thought occurred to me.

Designing storage furniture is tricky. Or rather, it's extremely difficult to incorporate a playful element into it.

There are movements such as doors and drawers that open and close, and shelves that move up and down, and when you consider production considerations such as the precision of each part and the performance of the metal fittings, no matter how many sketches you draw, in the end it all ends up being a square box made up of flat boards.

So it makes sense that most storage furniture in the world is square.

So I decided to think about it from a completely different angle.

Usually, when designing storage furniture, the focus is on the box, but this time we reworked it to be similar to chair design, which is made up of legs and a frame, aiming for storage furniture that is three-dimensional rather than flat.

We ignore the maker's convenience and prioritize their own preferences, deliberately incorporating time and effort into the design to make it a pain for the craftsman.

In this way, the blueprint was completed, full of complex angles and curves that are rare for storage furniture.

We teamed up with trusted staff and started production.

There are many processes and structures that I have never experienced before, and there are many things that I won't understand until I actually get my hands dirty and make them.

As expected, the craftsmanship was a real challenge, and each task was fresh and enjoyable.

The tabletop was shaped with a plane to express both softness and sharpness, and the connection to the legs was carved with a knife, just like the finish on the chair legs and top board, to create a sense of unity.

The doors are made of solid wood that has been joined together at an angle to create a rounded shape, and by leaving the sharp edges that are unique to solid wood rather than the smooth roundness of molded plywood, the three-dimensional shadows accentuate the entire piece of furniture. Carved handles are embedded into these edges.

We also paid particular attention to the way the doors open and close, and the hinges, aiming to create a contrast between the soft-close function that closes the doors slowly and the ultra-analog solid wood furniture.

The shelf dowels are made of machined brass, which changes over time, and even the screws that secure the hardware were carefully designed.

The tabletop is 950mm high so that it can also be used as a small counter. When the shelves are installed in the center of the storage area, both the top and bottom are large enough to fit A4 size documents, and by raising or lowering the adjustable shelves or removing them, the storage height can be increased to a maximum of 640mm.

The height under the legs is such that even cleaning robots can pass through, making cleaning easy.

As a craftsman, I was extremely particular about my work, and although I was always nervous about trying new things, the days when the piece gradually took shape were filled with passion, and when it was finished I felt a little sad that this joy would disappear the next day.

So, I decided to make the series by using the basic design as it is and adding new items such as a living board and a TV board. I want to enjoy my exciting and exciting daily life a little more.
