The previous model, tie sofa 2018, was discontinued in 2022.

The reason for this was that it was determined that it would be difficult in many ways to produce it as a product.

The 15kg top board, which has been joined together into a block, is held in your hand and pressed against the machine, until it weighs just 5kg, which is tough work.

I'm confident in my physical strength, but after an hour and a half of work, my hands start shaking so much that I can't even hold a pencil.

The carved top rail is then combined with the frame, and the hand finishing process begins using cutting tools such as planes and swords.

Finishing the curves of large surfaces neatly and without distortion already requires a high level of skill.

On top of that, when you come across a difficult piece of wood with intricate and complex grain, you feel at a loss.

It is also necessary to stock special wide pieces of wood, which are not always available and are difficult to keep on hand.

For these and other reasons, production was finally discontinued.

And yet, two years have passed since then.

The tie chair has returned, but it's even more difficult now.

Is it because "once it's past your throat, you forget how hot it was?"

Is it because "the hardships are sweet once they're over?"

Once a new design pops into my head, I can't stop.

Before I knew it, I had drawn full-scale drawings and prepared molds for the parts.

There is a special wood reserve in the lumberyard just in case.

Now we're all set... we just have to do it.

It reminded me of the feeling you get when you go surfing on a typhoon day and see waves that are at your limit.

It's that feeling of excitement and sweat in your hands, while you feel anxious and think, "Wow, this looks tough."

Because I know that the greater the difficulty, the greater the pleasure I feel when I overcome it with all my might.

Looking at the tie chair again after two years has passed has given me many realizations.

I had been worried recently about when my growth would plateau, but in addition to my design ability and tool handling skills, I have also seen a great improvement in my aesthetic sense and taste over the past two years.

It felt like he was telling me that I was not at a level where I needed to worry about such things, and that I was still in training.

He also told me that the most exciting thing for him was this job of making furniture.
