On rare occasions, something unexpectedly good comes out of nowhere.

Shops had been telling us for some time that there was a high demand for compact and lightweight chairs.

We have made many elaborate chairs for competitions, weighing as little as possible, such as 2000g or 1600g, and we have the know-how to make them lighter while maintaining comfort and strength.

I tried to make use of this and design it as a more everyday item.

If the legs were made thinner, more complex structures and processing would be required to maintain strength, which would increase costs, so the legs are made of normal thickness.

In that case, to reduce the number of parts, three legs are used, but the choice is between "two legs in the front and one in the back" or "one in the front and two in the back."

The former is often used in designs such as low, large armchairs, as it is difficult to achieve balance from the hips to the back, which is the most important part, and the legs need to be extended outwards.

The latter can be stored compactly without the need to extend the legs outward.

By the way, three-legged chairs are not very common in Japan, but in Europe, where tile and stone floors are often used, three-legged chairs are highly valued because they are always stable no matter how uneven the floor.

Draw a quick sketch and start creating right away.

Once the frame is assembled, I temporarily assemble a small backrest and seat and sit down gently.

Well, as intended, the seating comfort is just as good as a regular chair.

Thinking that, I somehow moved my elbows towards my back and rested them on the backrest.

"Hmm? This? It fits surprisingly well."

I roughly carved out the angular part, imagining the line of my elbows, and tried sitting on it again.

No good, the fit was off. The first one was a failure. Before the image had even faded, I quickly made another one. This time I was more careful, sitting down and checking it over and over again as I carved it out. Then a beautiful, slightly twisted line began to appear from the back to the elbow. This was it! As I had expected, if you make something that fits the human body, it will naturally become beautiful.

In this way, we created a compact yet comfortable semi-armchair.
