The third installment of the Cocoda cabinet series
The third installment of the Cocoda cabinet series
Usually, when designing storage furniture, the focus is on the box, but like the previous work, we were inspired by the design method of a chair, which is made up of legs and a frame, and aimed to create storage furniture that is three-dimensional rather than flat.
The manufacturer's convenience was ignored, and their own personal preferences were prioritized, resulting in a design that would make the craftsman cry, with even more effort and hassle added.
In this way, we once again completed a drawing full of complex angles and curves, which is unusual for storage furniture.
The entire front is fitted with louvers to allow remote control operation.
The louvers are rounded and chamfered to match the overall atmosphere, and one of them has a carved handle.
The tabletop was shaped with a plane to express both softness and sharpness, and the connection to the legs was carved with a knife, just like the finish on the chair legs and top board, to create a sense of unity.
The doors are made of solid wood that has been joined together at an angle to create a rounded shape, and by leaving the sharp edges that are unique to solid wood rather than the smooth roundness of molded plywood, the three-dimensional shadows accentuate the entire piece of furniture. Carved handles are embedded into these edges.
We also paid particular attention to the way the doors open and close, and the hinges, aiming to create a contrast between the soft-close function that closes the doors slowly and the ultra-analog solid wood furniture.
The shelf dowels are made of machined brass, which changes over time, and even the screws that secure the hardware were carefully designed.
If you remove the adjustable shelves, the left and right curved doors are 300mm high and large enough to fit A4 size items, and the louvered section in the center is just large enough to store a DVD player, DS, etc.
You can also drill wiring holes in any position you like.
The height is such that cleaning robots can pass through and make cleaning easy.
