Every year, I make a chair for my wife as a birthday gift.

Unlike work or contests such as product prototypes or customer orders, this is a once-a-year opportunity to casually challenge yourself to create a structure or theme that you want to create without worrying about the outcome.

When I work freely without any pressure, there are years when I end up with a chair that is below average, but I'm still happy with it as it makes the students happy.

On the other hand, there are times when I create a masterpiece that I think I will never be able to create again.

In either case, the results of this free challenge have been useful in subsequent product development.

This chair was the first case in which a design could be commercialized almost as is.

We had been thinking about creating a second line of armchairs for the cocoda chair for some time, and had repeatedly made 10 prototypes, but we had not been able to bring it to fruition.

The 11th challenge was scheduled for my wife's birthday, which was just around the corner, so I decided to combine it with a present.

It was good that I was able to make it without worrying about the results, even though I had failed 10 times before.

We have created a chair that combines the best features of the previous 10 chairs.
