kapo stool / Interview with Taku Hisada

Interview with designer Taku Hisada (aka Hakase) about the new kapo stool

The background to the design

The most representative stool from KOMA is the triangular pick stool, so I started out thinking about making a different, square stool. The stacking feature is a unique feature not found in other products, so I really wanted to incorporate this.

Points of emphasis

When stacking, it is common to stack chairs by rotating them diagonally, so we decided to stack them straight on top of each other. Also, by making the chamfered edges of the seats and legs the same size, we aimed for a form that is connected overall.

Changes from the Young People's Work

The seat size has been increased from 240 x 240 mm to 260 x 260 mm. Furthermore, the angle of the legs has been increased from 6° to 7°, and the soles of the feet have been dug deeper, allowing for a deeper stacking when the chairs are stacked.

What if I were to use it myself?

I personally like the look of multiple layers stacked on top of each other, so I would use just one for everyday use and the rest as interior décor. I would also like to use them when I have guests over.
